Can I Practice Yoga after an Injury or Operation?

As with all physical and mental conditions, you have to rely on the medical advice of your doctor.  If he/she suggests that yoga would be beneficial in to the recovery of your condition, there shouldn’t be a reason not to practice.  However, it is critically important that you let the teacher know about your condition and take on board their suggestions for modified postures.   In fact, most yoga postures can be adapted to suit the abilities of people with injuries or disabilities.  Above all, with regular yoga practice your body awareness increases and you will find that over time, you become your own expert of what works and what doesn’t.   We have to understand that each individual may react differently to treatments and as such shed the mindset that there is a one-fits-all approach or cure.
