Supta Baddha Konasana (3)-resizedSupta Baddha Konasana (Reclined Bound Angle)

supta = reclining

baddha = bound

kona = angle

About the pose:

In this pose the knees are open to the side, the base of the feet are touching and the shoulders and arms are relaxed.  This pose is a great preparation for class, as it gently opens the areas of the body that tend to tighten up during the day, namely the hips and groin area, shoulders, chest and neck.  Blocks can be used under the knees for additional support and a strap along the hips and feet is useful to increase the stretch in the pelvis.

Key muscle groups:

Stretches the groin and inner thighs

Benefits:

–          frees blockages in the pelvic area

–          stimulates digestive organs

–          helps relieve symptoms of PMS and menopause

–          relaxes the mind

Enjoy your practice!

Namaste,

Evelyn
