Eka Pada Raja Kapotasana (King Pigeon Pose)
eka = one
pada = foot
raja = king
kapota = pigeon or dove
About the pose:
The full posture is suitable for intermediate students; however, even the modified pose (picture) has great benefits as it opens the hip flexors and hip rotating muscles. This modified pose is a passive stretching pose and as such it should be held for several minutes to allow for the muscles to release. A blanket can be placed under the hip of the bend knee to ensure symmetry of the pelvis.
Key muscle groups:
In the modified pose thighs, groin, hip flexors and hip rotators are stretched.
Benefits:
– relieves sciatic tension and lower back pain
– stimulates abdominal organs
Enjoy your practice!
Namaste,
