Baba Hari Dass: The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali: A Study Guide for Book I Samadhi Pada + Book II Sadhana Pada:

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali form the basis of Classical Yoga. This translation and commentary is one of the most comprehensive on this ancient text.

T.K.V. Desikachar: The Heart of Yoga

A great introduction into the holistic practice and philosophy of Yoga.

Georg Feuerstein: The Yoga Tradition – Its History, Literature, Philosophy and Practice

Probably the most comprehensive book of its kind – for the serious Yoga Student.

B.K.S. Iyengar: Yoga – The Path to Holistic Health

Detailed colour-illustrated hardcover with all fundamental Iyengar postures with and without props.

B.K.S. Iyengar: Light on Yoga

One of the classic books on yoga practice and its philosophy, focused on Iyengar Yoga.

Swami Muktibodhananda: Hatha Yoga Pradipika

This traditional text covers the entire science and philosophy of hatha yoga as it was conceived and practiced not only for health and fitness but for awakening the vital energies.

Sri K. Pattabhi Jois: Yoga Mala

It outlines the ethical principles and philosophy and explains its important terms and concepts, followed by a guide through Ashtanga’s versions of the Sun Salutation and its subsequent sequence of 42 asana.

Ray Long: The Key Muscles of Yoga – Scientific Keys, Volume I

For the anatomically-scientifically inclined, the series by Ray Long is a ‘must have’.

Gregor Maehle: Ashtanga Yoga – Practice and Philosophy

An illustrated and detailed anatommical guide to the primary series of Ashtanga Yoga together with philosophy; includes a comprehensive translation and interpretations of Patanjali’s Sutras.

John Scott: Ashtanga Yoga Book

Short and sharp illustrated description of the primary series of Asthanga Yoga with a short introduction to Yoga Philosophy.

David Swenson: Ashtanga Yoga Practice Manual – An Illustrated Guide to Personal Practice

Comprehensive illustrated version for every asana in the Primary and Intermediate Series, including options for modifications.

Rodney Yee: Moving Toward Balance – 8 Weeks of Yoga

An excellent book for the beginner focused on basic and advanced Asana practice.
